What
is Unity?
According
to Charles Fillmore, co-founder of the Unity movement, Unity is a link in the
great educational movement inaugurated by Jesus Christ; our objective is to discern
the Truth in Christianity and prove it. The Truth that we teach is not new: neither
do we claim special revelations or discovery of new religious principles. Our
purpose is to help and teach mankind to use and prove the eternal Truth taught
by the Master.
We believe God is the only power and presence in the universe, and God is good!
The Christ that was in Jesus exists as the divine potential in every person. Beliefs,
ideas, and feelings-held in mind-are the major causative factors in creating the
conditions of our lives. Prayer and meditation are the primary tools for bringing
our minds and hearts into alignment with the love and the will of God. Entering
into the relationship with God that was taught and demonstrated by Jesus is the
most practical way we have to create the kind of lives we desire here on earth. Prayer
Ministry Unity's approach to prayer is affirmative, based on positive prayers
and affirmations that have universal appeal. An affirmation is a simple statement
of spiritual truth that calls forth a conscious recognition of our oneness with
God. Focusing on these spiritual truths reinforces our awareness of God and all
that God is. Prayer
Requests
Are you facing a challenge right now? The UCT Prayer Team is here
for you. To place a name on the UCT Prayer Chain and have the name mentioned at
a Prayer Service, please fill out a prayer request and place it in the sanctuary
prayer box or email officemanager@unitytriangle.org.
The request will also be forwarded to Silent Unity, who will pray for another
30 days. You may also send
a prayer request directly to Silent Unity.
One-to-One
Prayer Support The UCT Chaplains will provide one-to-one prayer support
following Sunday services. If you would like someone to pray with you, please
come to the front of the sanctuary near the Prayer Box, or look for those wearing
the purple "Chaplain" ribbon on thier lapel.
Youth Education
Unity Church of the
Triangle seeks to instill values of compassion, love, service and diversity in their youth through a loving and safe environment. Unity believes that children are "loved,
special, and important just the way they are." In allowing a child to explore their own unique spiritual path and honoring each child's journey, we hope to develop families at UCT that
can meet life's challenges with an open and caring attitude. Unity offers infant and toddler care at 9:00 a.m. At 11:00 a.m. we offer a full program from
infant through high school. If you would like more information about the youth program, please contact our Youth Education Director.
Our
Minister Neusom
Holmes When
I look into my heart on this winter day, I observe two layers. One layer changes
with the events - feels hurt when rejected or defeated, feels happy when loved
or anticipating possibilities. This layer reminds me I am alive, that I feel,
and gives me some sense of compassion for others' emotions. When I pay attention
to this layer of the heart I can stand on a riverbank at dawn watching the sun
reflect off water and snow, and be nearly blind to the scenery. The strength of
the emotions can filter nature down to an echo of its numinous magic. Perhaps
more accurately, when I am focused on this layer of my heart, I am paying attention
to nature, the nature of my particular, personal world. When I look deeper to
the layer of my heart that does not rise and fall with the day's events, I notice
a quiet that surrounds the pulse of emotions. Some times in this place the sounds
of the rapids recede leaving me in stillness. Other times the tweet of the sparrow
sings penetrates me and fastens me to the world. In this place it often feels
as if my peripheral vision is almost 360 degrees. The edges that define me melt
and all is one. When I think about spiritual healing I remember the two layers
of the heart. The layer that suffers initiates the prayer. That layer feels the
pain and wants relief. It calls out for help. A journey begins. It ends very close
to where it left. It ends in the heart at a deeper level. During the journey the
heart changes. We move from the ego to All-That-Is. The All-That-Is soothes the
heart, quiets the mind, sings the lullaby, touches the bruise, and holds the hand
of the aching heart. Sometimes the conditions that initiated the journey change,
always the heart changes. When we listen to our hearts, when we remember our journey
through life is a spiritual one, when we stand in the grace of All-That-Is, we
find our way home to our heart of hearts. May we all find our way to our heart
of hearts through prayer, meditation and attention. May we convert our sorrows
into footsteps on the path home.
